The Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine and Natural Doctors International have maintained close ties for a number of years. Brigade 50 (see member profiles below) travelled to Nicaragua in July 2015 to help deliver free medical care, in addition to donated supplements and medical supplies bought with donated funds.

Brigade Building Underway!
ALanI am originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, one of the biggest cities in South America, and I made Canada my new home in 2014. I love learning about new cultures, languages and lifestyles because it allows me to connect with people and grow as an individual.
Immigrating to Canada has opened a new chapter in my life. In Brazil I worked for over 3 years as a Registered Clinical Psychologist licensed by the Regional Council of Psychology of Sao Paulo and now in Canada I am in my first year as a medical student at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. Naturopathic Medicine has a deep meaning to me, it has changed my health and my perspective about quality of life. As a naturopathic student, I am engaged in promoting a healthy lifestyle and I am honored to be part of the July Brigade 2016 in Nicaragua. |
alexI was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, always having an extreme passion for the great outdoors. I grew up playing high level soccer which continuously had me thinking about optimal health and wellness. I later attended the University of Arizona on a soccer scholarship where I received a Bachelor of Science in Physiology. This degree had direct application to me as an athlete and has set me up for a career in healthcare.
Post-graduation I ended up back in Calgary, spending as much time as possible out in the mountains and found my way to natural medicine, looking for a preventative approach to disease and striving for optimal health. After seeing a naturopathic doctor I knew that it was where I belonged. Now that I have moved to the Vancouver area and am in my first year at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, I am on the path to becoming a Naturopathic Doctor. Before applying to go back to school, I did some travelling and in 2014, I volunteered in Arusha, Tanzania at an orphanage. This experience is one that has stayed with me and introduced me to the power of sustainable living. While the orphanage was an incredibly rewarding experience, I have dreamed of going on another volunteer trip in which I would be involved at a clinic. This opportunity to volunteer in the natural clinic with NDI is one that I have been dreaming about for a long time. I am very humbled to be pursuing this passion of mine both at school and with NDI. |
